Zura (whose real name is Evgeni Tskhadaia) was born in Georgia in 1968. His father Zauri Tskhadaia, also an artist and scenographer, worked in the Poti State Drama Theatre as chief scenographer, and Zura spent much of his free time here as a child, starting to paint from an early age. Zura’s Mother, Nina Anisimova, was a maths teacher.

From 1986 to 1995 he studied at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts under Professor P. Lapishvili. In his first year at the Academy he studied architecture and, later, painting and theatre design.

During his time at the Academy, Zura took part in numerous exhibitions, and also worked as an assistant scenographer at the Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theatre, as well as the theatres in Poti and Batumi.

From 1993-1994 he studied iconography and wall painting at the renowned restoration studios run by Olga Nadareishvili in St Petersburg, Russia.

From 1995-1996 he worked with his father on the wall painting commissioned by the church of St. Nicholas in Poti, Georgia and, later, at the church of Our Lady in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Since 1996 Zura has been living and working in Copenhagen, Denmark.
